DUI and DUID Defense: Matt stays current with the frequent changes in DUI and Express Consent law in Colorado through a heavy book of DUI defense work, annual continuing legal education classes and frequent discussions with colleagues. He understands the license issues, jail alternatives, and legal issues that allow for a successful defense to minimize the consequences of the DUI charge. Matt works to find issues — wrongful stops, poor investigations, inadequate chemical tests — that allow him to minimize the prosecution against his clients.

Domestic Violence Defense: Matt recognizes the difficult nature of these cases: often the allegations are stated in the heat of an argument after both partners are upset and angry. These cases are particularly difficult for those in the military and other professions where a DV case can end a career. They are no less difficult where a relationship is ending and issues of parenting time are involved. While not all relationships can be reconciled, Matt works with respect and the power of the truth to minimize these cases. He has an impressive record of resolving difficult domestic violence cases favorably for his clients and a long list of cases where he has shown fabricated and exaggerated allegations to be false.

Felony Defense: Felony accusations are very serious matters that need prompt and experienced attention. Matt has been defending persons accused of felony crimes in Colorado Springs, metro Denver and Teller County since 1998. He does appointed work through Colorado’s Alternate Defense Counsel, which shows his commitment to defending those accused of crime and his willingness to keep current with criminal law. If you find yourself charged with a felony, Matt can help you defend it. He has years of experience and a proven method to defend these cases, which include investigating the facts with private investigators, researching questions of law, and working in a professional manner with the prosecuting attorney to persuade him or her to minimize the outcome and achieve the client’s goals. When a trial is necessary, Matt has done enough trial work to present defenses and persuade the jury.

Civil and Personal Injury Litigation: Matt has prosecuted and defended a wide variety of civil cases. In addition to his trial experience, he also has the resource of a law firm with a wide range of expertise to confer with and work to help clients achieve their litigation goals. With the collection of Greg O’BoyleJohn Cyboron and Matt Werner all in one firm, Alpern Myers Stuart LLC is the preeminent local litigation firm in Colorado Springs.
